THE PERFORMANCE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN THE POST-OPERATIVE OF MASTECTOMY: A LITERATURE REVIEW Physiotherapy after mastectomy.

Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer is a non-communicable disease with progressive evolution that primarily affects women. This type of cancer results from the abnormal growth of cells in the breast and can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Mastectomy, one of the possible surgeries, can cause complications that affect the quality of life of these patients, including lymphedema and range of motion limitations. In this case, postoperative physiotherapy is essential to minimize these complications, and its practice through techniques and/or resources such as kinesiotherapy, complex decongestive therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, and electrotherapy improves the quality of life of these patients. Objective: To verify the main techniques or resources used by physiotherapy in the postoperative period, as well as the impact of these interventions on the quality of life of post-mastectomy women. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review conducted through the SCIELO, PUBMED, LILACS, and CAPES databases using the keywords "physiotherapy," "breast cancer," "mastectomy," and "rehabilitation" from January to June 2024. Articles published in English and Portuguese in the last five years (2019 to 2024) were selected. Results: Among the 52 articles found in the databases, seven were selected for meeting the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: The importance of physiotherapeutic interventions in the postoperative period of mastectomy was observed, promoting reduced recovery time, enabling quicker return to daily, sports, and occupational activities, through functional recovery, self-esteem, and especially in reducing probable postoperative complications.
