Abstract

Objective: To describe the impacts of low visual acuity on the activities of daily living of elderly people. Methodology: Narrative review, with data collection carried out on MedLine, in October 2023, using the following inclusion criteria: materials published between 2018 and 2022, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, available in full. Results: Six articles were included, all published in English; 50.0% were transmitted in 2021, 33.3% in 2018 and 16.7% in 2022. Low vision had a direct impact on reading documents, performing personal hygiene, preparing meals, and increasing the risk of falls. Final considerations: When addressing the impact of low visual acuity on activities of daily living in older people, it is essential to consider social and racial dimensions to guarantee culturally sensitive dimensions, and accessible and comprehensive care.
